DripDrop Has Donated More Than 50,000 ORS Packets to FIMRC Sites
Jan 21, 2021PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (January 21, 2021) – Did you know that dehydration resulting from diarrheal disease is responsible for approximately 1.8 million deaths every year? The vast majority of these deaths are children under five living in low to middle-income countries. That's why the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC) is proud to have partnered with DripDrop, providing an Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) that treats and prevents dehydration in underserved communities around the world.
“We focus on three impact areas: humanitarian aid, firefighters, and children,” explained Tara Pate, DripDrop's Brand Marketing and Director of Mission Activation. “Helping children is part of our founding principle. We strive to educate communities and healthcare workers about the importance of ORS and how to use it. Eventually, we want to equip every FIMRC volunteer traveling to a Project Site with a kit full of product.”
DripDrop was founded by Dr. Eduardo Dolhun after he realized many children suffering from dehydration reject ORS due to its unsatisfying flavor. DripDrop's ORS contains a mixture of electrolytes, sugar, water, and zinc, which work to restore the electrolyte and fluid balance lost by excessive sweating, vomiting, or diarrheal disease. Diarrheal disease is among the top threats FIMRC communities face due to nutritional status and inadequate water access. In 2019, Dr. Dolhun began volunteering at FIMRC Project Sites, where he brought along fellow DripDrop team members and product and performed consultations. Since then, DripDrop has donated more than 50,000 ORS packets to FIMRC, providing effective treatment to their communities.
“From all the times we run our mobile clinics, I have never seen any ORS create such an impact,” said Dafne Calderon, Field Operations Manager at FIMRC's Project Restauración, Dominican Republic. “DripDrop is not just an ORS, but a pleasing and healthy experience for both patients and staff. The DripDrop team raised awareness and made a long-lasting impact on parents and children in preventing dehydration by paying attention to the needs of the community in interactive and fun ways!”
