Volunteering Abroad with FIMRC Peru: What Volunteers Do with The Children of Albergue Infantil El Rosario
Nov 07, 2025HUANCAYO, PERU - At FIMRC Peru, we believe that meaningful change begins with education, and few places reflect this better than Albergue Infantil El Rosario, one of our most inspiring community partners. Located in the vibrant city of Huancayo, this children’s home provides care, shelter, and hope to around 20 young residents who have faced challenging life circumstances.
What Do Volunteers Do in Peru with FIMRC?
Since before the pandemic, FIMRC Peru has worked hand in hand with El Rosario, offering workshops focused on preventive health and healthy living.
During their volunteer experience, participants take part in activities such as:
- Teaching handwashing and hygiene habits through interactive games
- Leading health and nutrition workshops for children
- Supporting mental and emotional well-being through play and art
- Promoting preventive health education to encourage lifelong habits
- Collaborating with FIMRC’s local staff on community health initiatives
These sessions are designed to make learning fun and engaging, empowering children to take charge of their own health and inspiring positive behaviors that last a lifetime.

Why Volunteering in Peru Is So Special
Beyond the workshops, what makes this partnership so meaningful is the connection between volunteers and children.
Our volunteers don’t just teach, they listen, play, and learn alongside the kids, discovering the power of empathy, patience, and shared laughter. Whether it’s a soccer game, a drawing activity, or a health talk, every moment spent at El Rosario becomes a reminder that preventive care begins with love, trust, and community.
Through this immersion, volunteers develop:
- Cross-cultural communication and teamwork
- Experience in community-based health programs
- A deeper understanding of global health and child wellness
- Compassionate approaches to preventive care
These lessons extend far beyond the classroom, they help shape the next generation of globally minded healthcare providers.
How FIMRC Peru Supports Community Health
