FIMRC Chapters make substantial contributions to our mission to improve access to healthcare for medically underserved communities around the world. Our network of 70+ chapters fundraise, advocate, and volunteer both in their local communities and abroad at FIMRC project sites. Although most campuses are currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been so proud to see how chapters have adapted and continued to support FIMRC and bond virtually! If you’re a chapter looking for ways to stay connected during this time, check out some ways you and your chapter can stay connected and support FIMRC!

FUNDRAISING

UNC_2.jpg
  • Start a fundraiser for FIMRC!  UNC-Chapel Hill’s FIMRC chapter has hit the ground running with a t-shirt fundraiser. They designed their own FIMRC shirts and are donating the profits made to FIMRC!

  • Already had a fundraising event planned that got canceled because of COVID-19? Email [email protected] and we’ll help to brainstorm ideas of how you can make the fundraiser happen virtually! For example, a popular chapter fundraiser is “Pie-a-Professor,” where students donate a certain amount of money and are able to pie a professor. This time, just do it over video! Have a certain goal, and if you are able to reach that goal, a participating professor has to send a video of themselves being pied!

  • You or your chapter can also create fundraisers through a personalized FIMRC fundraising page, through Facebook, or other fundraising platforms in order to support FIMRC. Contact [email protected] to get started!

ADVOCACY

  • Continue to advocate for our new virtual volunteer opportunities by posting about our programs via social media. North Carolina State University's FIMRC Chapter recently posted about our virtual volunteer programs on Instagram, helping to spread the word about FIMRC and recruit volunteers!

  • Continue to advocate for global health issues on your chapter’s social media accounts. Georgia State University’s FIMRC Chapter is doing a great job at keeping followers informed about global health challenges.

  • Organize a movie night where you will all watch the same movie! Bonus points if it’s movie/documentary pertaining to global health! You can actually host a watch party through Netflix so that you can all watch together.

VOLUNTEERING

  • FIMRC’s MSU Chapter came together on Zoom to write letters to send to nursing homes! Contact local nursing homes to see if you could send letters to their residents.

  • Chapter members have already enrolled in our virtual volunteer programs our virtual volunteer programs! Organize a group in your chapter to participate in our virtual volunteer opportunities! You could work on a volunteer project with your group that will benefit our communities!

If you’re a chapter with unique virtual ideas, email [email protected] to let us know what you are up to and you could be featured on social media! Looking to start or join a chapter at your school? Get started here: https://www.fimrc.org/chapters.
