Every August, Peru honors the essential role of nutritionist with the celebration of Día del Nutricionista Peruano. It’s more than a holiday; it’s a reminder of the vital work being done to fight against malnutrition and the importance of public health.

Malnutrition remains one of Peru’s most pressing public health challenges, especially among children and families in low-income communities. The country faces a complex mix of nutritional concerns, from chronic undernutrition in remote Andean and Amazonian communities to rising rates of obesity and diet-related illnesses in urban centers. In response, both public and private sectors have launched nationwide food programs, school-based interventions, and community health initiatives aimed at addressing this growing concern.

At FIMRC Peru, we are proud to be part of this mission. Our team works closely with local health authorities and community leaders to support nutritional health from the ground up. Through hands-on involvement in nutrition assessments, public health campaigns, and educational workshops, our volunteers contribute directly to the well-being of the most vulnerable populations.

For aspiring health professionals, especially those studying nutrition, and looking to expand your impact beyond the classroom, this is the perfect learning opportunity. As a volunteer with our Global Health Volunteer Program (GHVP), you’ll work in health posts, clinics, and hospitals, gaining invaluable real-world experience. You are going to learn about national strategies that aim to improve food quality, social programs, and the different types of care provided at each level of the healthcare system. You'll also explore newborn nutrition strategies, food supplementation initiatives, and much more!

Whether you're looking to understand the intersection of nutrition and public health or simply want to serve a community in need, your time in Peru will be both meaningful and educational. If you're looking to make an impact while developing your clinical skills in a cross-cultural setting, the GHVP in Peru offers a truly transformative experience.

And if your passion for nutrition extends beyond Peru, FIMRC also offers immersive volunteer opportunities in Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Uganda. Each site provides unique programs that allow you to engage in nutrition education, community outreach, and clinical care tailored to local health needs.

If you’re ready to grow as a professional while making a tangible difference, now is the time to get involved. Your future in health starts here.
