...because of your support for FIMRC's featured day on Philanthroper last Friday. FIMRC cannot thank you enough for gearing up and helping our CHE program in Uganda with a crucial healthcare initiative. Break it down any way you would like, but you can be sure that the overall conclusion is this: "A little helps a lot." And with your help, we can do a lot.
With your support last Friday and over the last week, we were able to raise a total of $1411. That comes to 7,055 home visits for HIV patients within Project Bumwalukani, or roughly an entire year's worth of this specialized facet of HIV patient care for 587 Ugandans with HIV. Woah!
Uganda was one of the first sub-saharan African countries to experience the devastation brought about by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s and early 1990s, but has proven to be a success story in terms of reducing HIV infection rates. This is due to a high-level political committment to combat the spread of the infection and collaboration from a number of partners across many sectors, including other nonprofit organizations like FIMRC!
Since the clinic within Project Bumwalukani began testing for HIV in 2009, it was found that the community in which we work had a prevalence rate of 17.9%--nearly three times the Ugandan national average.
The monthly home visits that you read about in our Philanthroper deal and donated toward are absolutely crucial to ensure that our many clients are following their routine schedules and appointments, maintaining good health practices within their own homes, and of course, taking their medicine. It is only in this way that we can provide our community with comprehensive care to manage those affected with HIV already and, coupled with other health education initiatives with the help of our invaluable CHEs, eventually reduce the overall prevalence rate of HIV in the community.
As some of you noticed, given the donations we received over the course of the week (Thanks!), you are still welcome to donate to our Philanthroper deal here. We appreciate it.
So, what's next? How can you get more involved with FIMRC's mission? Rest easy. There are a number of ways to get involved, found right here, and include but certainly aren't limited to volunteering at one of our project sites, beginning a chapter, or simply spreading the word about FIMRC in general with a good, old-fashioned phone call!
We invite you to join the FIMRC family and become more involved, but most of all, we hope that you act on the mantra of 'a little helps a lot' and become more invested in any cause that you find worthy.
That's all for now. Thanks again for supporting us and we wish you a wonderful weekend!
