Yoga, breathing exercises, and simple meditative postures have long been proven to be beneficial to both physical and mental health, for adults and children alike. FIMRC has developed various classes to benefit the local community in La Merced.
Project La Merced currently works with the female prisoners in the local jail. They participate in a weekly class where they practice basic postures, breathing techniques and meditation – a form of yoga called “trauma yoga”. This practice is simple but effective and can be adapted, practiced, and taught by people of all abilities, enabling us to expand the program to a wider group of individuals and communities. Regular practice can help to harmonise the body with the mind, using a series of physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation, reducing stress, bringing a stronger awareness and connection with your body and help you to feel better about yourself. Project La Merced staff would like to expand the program to work with women and families suffering from domestic, physical and sexual violence and also children and teens, currently living in child institutions and orphanages. Your donation would purchase more yoga mats to carry out additional classes at Project La Merced.
