Chapter accomplishments:
- Held two consecutive group volunteer mission trips of six members each to FIMRC’s site in Nicaragua in January 2009 where they assisted medical staff, treated water supplies of local homes to prevent mosquito-borne disease, taught handwashing and dental hygiene to local children, trained adolescents and adults in family planning, launched a trash pickup campaign, and dug steps and installed piping for a nearby government clinic
- Sent nine chapter members on a volunteer mission to FIMRC’s site in Costa Rica in January 2009, providing assistance despite a major earthquake that occurred during their stay
- Organized group of five chapter members on a volunteer mission to FIMRC’s site in El Salvador in March 2009
- Assembled health care kits to distribute to children at FIMRC clinic sites
- Made Thanksgiving cards to distribute to patients at a local children’s hospital
- Hosted a speaker from a nearby Ronald McDonald House
- Volunteered at a nursing home to play bingo with residents
- Regularly sent volunteers to a local soup kitchen to prepare food and assist staff
- Held a bake sale to raise money for chapter members’ international mission trips
- Sent chapter members to Save the Children’s New Jersey warehouse to prepare food shipments
- Collaborated with Rutgers’ Desi Intercultural Youth Association to hold a formal benefit for FIMRC’s Project Kodaikanal, India. The event featured a donated Indian buffet, student performers of Indian music and dance, and FIMRC’s Executive Vice President as a guest speaker
- Held a movie screening on campus to raise awareness of child soldiers in Africa
- Held a fundraiser night at Applebee’s Restaurant where a portion of each patron’s check was donated to the chapter to fund international FIMRC mission trips
- Led a campus-wide supply drive to collect books and toys for local schools and children’s charities
- Collected hygiene supplies for FIMRC’s clinic sites by choosing a different item for chapter members to donate at each general body meeting
- Maintained active membership of over 100 in 2007-2008
- Sponsored fundraising event for children’s cancer
- Organized group of 25 volunteers for a mission trip to FIMRC’s site in Peru in January 2008
- Organized group of 15 volunteers for a mission trip to FIMRC’s site in El Salvador in August 2008
