FIMRC Volunteer Service in Huancayo
FIMRC’s site in Huancayo is currently able to accommodate groups of 2-14 volunteers. Volunteers in Huancayo perform shadowing rotations alongside Peruvian medical students in a large government hospital. Volunteers also spend time providing health education to children and families in and around Huancayo and may also assist in preventative health or vaccination campaigns.
Spanish proficiency is recommended, but not required by FIMRC. However, volunteers may find that any level of Spanish comprehension will enhance interactions with medical staff and patients.
The nature of the volunteer mission to Peru will vary depending on the number of volunteers in each group, the seasonal timing of the mission, the length of the volunteer trip, medical expertise and training, as well as the current needs of the community and clinic.
