FIMRC
: Global Health Volunteer Program
Checklist for planning a trip with the FIMRC Volunteer Program
1. Decide if you are traveling as an individual or as a group. If you are traveling with others, meet with members of your group to discuss possible trip dates and locations. Please review current volunteer program options and packets online at http://www.fimrc.org/missions/index.php
Please note that program details and donations do change so please do not assume that the procedure will be identical to previous years! After reviewing the information online, you should have the most up to date information.
2. Contact missions@fimrc.org with your group size, desired dates of travel, and desired location. Also, please send a list of names and email addresses of those in your group. At this time FIMRC will send you the enrollment forms. Please do not have volunteers plan their trips or fill out the enrollment forms without first confirming group size and dates with the national office. Our university break periods are quite busy and fill up early.
3. After a FIMRC representative from the missions account confirms that these spots are available, please proceed to fill out the enrollment forms and send them in along with the full program donation. If you are unsure about the program donation, please check the location overview or contact missions@fimrc.org Your verbal confirmation of particpation in the trip will be honored for two weeks. If FIMRC does not receive forms from your group, FIMRC may offer the spots to other interested volunteers.
Please note, all forms and program donations must be received by four weeks prior to travel. Any forms or donations submitted after this deadline must be accompanied by a $50 late processing fee. If volunteers are working on getting a passport or have not yet booked flights, they can send the forms in without this information and forward the missing information when they have it.
4. Please put together a brief group summary, explaining which participants speak the native language, if anyone has pet allergies, and who has an interest in a particular subject, etc. and email this to missions@fimrc.org
5. You may consider collecting donations of clothing or medical supplies for the clinic of your destination. Please check with FIMRC for the most pressing needs. Also, if you want a FIMRC t-shirt or scrubs order early so that they will arrive before your trip!
6. You will receive an information packet prior to departure that provides more information about packing and arrival. Please continue to be in touch with any questions. Please note that FIMRC does arrange travel to and from the airport. Once we have this information we communicate it to our ground staff in country.
7. Relax; You and your group are all set and should look forward to an interesting and memorable experience!**
NOTE: If you will be an unaccompanied minor (under age 18) at the start of your program, you must download a Minor Application Form, complete and submit it, and receive approval before enrolling in a program.
