FIMRC: Project Pignon

FIMRC is celebrating its new partnership in Haiti with Hộpital Bienfaisaince, located in Pignon, (pronounce Pin-yon) a small town in the north Central Plateau. The hospital, which was founded in 1983 by Haitian Dr. Guy Theodore, has become the epicenter of health, education, and development, serving the region’s 138,000 inhabitants.

Despite its location in rural Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Hộpital Bienfaisaince has seen remarkable success and its statistics are staggering: 45,000 patients seen per year; 92% vaccination rate in the Pignon catchment area; 26,000 laboratory tests; 700 surgeries per year; and midwives that deliver over 3,300 newborns annually. The hospital also provides a wide range of community services including micro-financing, operating regional vaccination programs and medical care at four Satellites, establishing and funding several local schools and orphanages, water sanitation projects, farming, and reforestation programs.

Throughout the year, FIMRC organizes volunteer trips to Pignon. The partnership with Hộpital Bienfaisaince provides a unique volunteer experience for surgical specialists, educators, and non-medical volunteers dedicated to improving the lives of those in this underserved region.

As the partnership and program grow, so too does the need and opportunities for volunteers. FIMRC organizes week long, group trips periodically throughout the year to support all of the projects conducted at Hộpital Bienfaisaince. Please contact FIMRC at missions@fimrc.org or 1-888-211-8575 for more information regarding Project Pignon, or to organize or join a scheduled group trip.
